Barry Ferguson's hopes of playing for Rangers again this season have been dashed after he was ruled out of the run-in with a calf tear.
The 31-year-old midfielder suffered the injury which will rule him out for between four and six weeks just two minutes into Tuesday's reserve match against Hearts, his first appearance for the club since returning from a two-week suspension imposed for his behaviour while on Scotland duty.
It was the midfielder's first outing since he and goalkeeper Allan McGregor returned from the two-week suspensions imposed upon them for flicking V-signs at photographers days after indulging in a drinking session while on Scotland duty.
Reserve-team coach Tommy Wilson told the Light Blues' official website after the second-string clash: "Barry just felt his calf pop.
"He was really up for the game so I was really disappointed when he had to come off.
"He was desperate to get back to action and has played for me a couple of times in the reserves this season when he was coming back from his ankle injury."
