PostSubject: LIVERPOOL VS ASTON VILLA [PREVIEW]   Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:41 pm

Liverpool lock horns with Aston Villa at Anfield on Monday evening with the Reds hoping to continue an impressive home record against the Midlanders.

The Merseysiders have only lost once to the Villans in front of the Kop in the last ten meetings.

Last season, a Steven Gerrard hat-trick helped Liverpool to an emphatic 5-0 victory over Villa at Anfield, with Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera also on the scoresheet.

Match stats

Steven Gerrard has scored ten goals against Aston Villa in his career (including nine in the league) – that's his highest tally against any one club.

Liverpool's win last season was their best against Villa in the league since October 1953 when they won 6-1. It equalled the 5-0 victory in December 1907.

Should Liverpool win, it will bring their total points won against Aston Villa in the Premier League to 65 – their best haul against any other team in the modern era.

If Liverpool score twice they will record 300 in league games against Villa.

Liverpool have scored 13 goals in the last four league meetings with Villa at Anfield.

The Reds have drawn all of their last three games played on a Monday evening – all at Anfield including a 2-2 stalemate against Villa in January 2008.

Steven Gerrard's goal at Tottenham eight days ago meant that he became only the 13th player in the club's history to score for an 11th successive season.

In 2008-09 Villa finished sixth, for the second successive season. They won ten away games but failed to win any of the last six games on the road.
